Quick Hamburger Buns Recipe

I think we all have busy summer days whether we are working in the yard or playing at the pool. And that’s what I love about BBQing. Its quick, tasty, fresh and just says summertime!

I always lose myself in a project or get carried away with kids and going to the grocery store for another quick trip is NOT an option. Thats when I’m grateful to have this tasty hamburger bun recipe up my sleeve.

In between gardening and running the kids around, I know dinner will be wholesome and homemade, by thawing out some burger and putting this quick hamburger bun dough together.

I just have to remember to start these buns at least 2 hours before dinner time. They have a 1st and 2nd rise. Maybe you’re thinking, “that’s not quick!” Well honey, in the world of food from scratch, that’s pretty quick. And the results are UNCOMPARABLE!

Take Hamburgers to the Next LEVEL!

By the end of summer, after all the church and youth BBQs are over, the last thing I want to do is eat another cheap hamburger. So, keep hamburgers interesting!

Here are a few tips to keep Hamburgers interesting:

  • Make and season your own hamburger patties. I know it’s easy to buy the premade made ones. But you will notice a difference in quality and price. Mix up the flavor profile. For an example, add ginger, garlic and soy sauce to give them an Asian flare.
  • Make the best Hamburger buns ever! Homemade buns will change the whole hamburger experience. Buns from scratch have a fresh baked flavor. And your dinner guests will be singing your praises!
  • Change up the toppings! Skip the normal ketchup and mustard. That gets old really fast. Opt. fresh coleslaw, Pico de Gallo and guacamole. Try teriyaki sauce, pineapple and pickled onions. My hubby’s favorite is sauteed mushrooms, melted Swiss cheese and BBQ sauce. Your hamburger is going to feel very gourmet!

For thanksgiving I double the batch for rolls. I have also used this recipe for cinnamon rolls. You’re going to want to hold on to this recipe for lots of occasions.

Homemade Hamburger Buns

Yield: 6 Buns
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Additional Time: 2 hours
Total Time: 2 hours 30 minutes

These buns are soft and light with a fresh buttery flavor. Just prefect for hamburgers, sloppy joes or any hot sandwich.

Ingredients

  • For proofing yeast:
  • 1 Packet of Rapid Rising Yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • For Dough:
  • 2 eggs
  • 2/3 cups warm water
  • 1/4 cup melted butter (cooled)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 to 3 cups white bread flour
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

1. Put yeast, 1/4 cup warm water and 1 tsp sugar in mixing bowl and mix. Rest for 5 minutes.

2. After 5 minutes yeast will have risen and be foamy. Add eggs, water, butter and sugar and mix.

3. With dough hook attached and on low speed, add flour little by little. Add salt. Let dough hook knead until dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the bowl. The dough should be tacky to the touch but not sticky or dry. About 5 minutes of kneading.

4. Cover bowl with towel or plastic wrap and let rise for 1 hour.

5. The dough will have risen about half its size. Punch dough down. Prepare a floured surface and shape dough into 6 balls.

6. Cover baking sheet with parchment paper and place dough balls on sheet. Cover with plastic wrap or towel and let rise for 1 hour. I like to put mine in the oven with the oven light on.

7. When the rolls are doubled in size, make an egg wash. Mix 1 egg with about 1 tsp water in a small dish. With a brush, coat each roll gently with egg wash. Then sprinkle with sesame seeds or seeds of your choice.

8. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.

Let cool before slicing. ENJOY!

Notes

Other seeds you could use, sunflower seeds, poppy seeds, or pepitas.

The egg wash will brown quickly, be careful not to burn the top!
